Garga's Pages

My name is Garga, and I have been Sri Chinmoy's student since 1993 when I joined the Bristol Sri Chinmoy Centre (after attending meditation classes put on by Balavan). Here are links to the pages I have published so far:

On Meditation
For those of you new to meditation, or new to Sri Chinmoy's philosophy, I have written an account of my first inner experiences and how I learn't to meditate back in the early 90's. Hard to put this stuff into words, have done my best to convey it!

Ananda - The Joy of Spiritual Music
A little piece I wrote about the music group I play and sing in - we perform Sri Chinmoy's devotional songs, mostly at meditation classes and free public concerts. We regularly play in Bristol & Cardiff, so if you are local you should get to hear us perform. The article seems to have disappeared from our server right now, so for the moment the above link takes you to the Ananda Music homepage where you can hear our arrangements of Sri Chinmoy's songs.

Running and me....
Another piece that also appears on the Sri Chinmoy Centre UK web site. Sri Chinmoy encourages his students to exercise, and as an athlete himself he knows the spiritual benefits of sport first hand. Many people find the connection between marathons and meditation hard to fathom, so I have tried to explain it!

Picture: recent post-race discussion with running luminaries Prabuddha & Abichal (after a 2 mile race in Malaysia), the latter has pages you really should read including his account of the world's longest race.

Sacred Steps
My personal web log - stories of my expeditions up mountains from the Brecon Beacons to the volcanoes of Bali, and of the numerous fell races, marathons and ultramarathons I have been lucky enough to take part in over recent years. Strange as it may seem to the uninitiated, these runs and treks are part of my "yoga", a dynamic counterpart to the practise of meditation.

My new project for 2012 is organising the Self-Transcendence Triathlon in Somerset. Sri Chinmoy was the inspiration behind this event - after organising a couple of member-only events for our club, the Sri Chinmoy AC, this year I will be organising and directing a public triathlon. Aimed at first timers, the event is already sold out with 100 entrants. We're hoping for good weather on July 1st! Details are online at Sri Chinmoy Races.

Although he never completed at Triathlon, Sri Chinmoy was a keen cyclist (picture above shows Sri Chinmoy in a 24 hour cycle event in New York) and runner. He spoke and wrote about Triathlon on a number of occasions. Some of his words are online at Sri Chinmoy Library.
